Mirepoix

After a week and a half off for spring break, school was back in session this week. Because Finn was in camp the whole time, maintaining a routine, I thought it would be a smooth transition, but it still took a little time (just one tough morning – not too terrible). It probably didn’t help that this week has been a little different, with after work events some days, Albert out of town for a long weekend, and me planning to be at BookCon on Saturday. Adaptability is the name of the game…that and distraction, since I planned a Friday night dinner with friends and a movie while he’s with the sitter on Saturday to soften the blow.

Usually Albert’s the one to take V to swim lessons, but he was playing golf this time so I handled it. I gotta say, I kinda love it. I grab a coffee on the way and having 30 minutes to sip on it while mindlessly scrolling on my phone, peeking up every so often to catch his progress is a lively way to spend a morning.

After swim, V and I spent two hours at the library and then had ourselves a lunch date. Thanks to my bag of tricks, he didn’t get bored at the restaurant and we had ourselves a lovely morning. With him, I’ve learned the trick is to just keep moving. And to keep things moving, we made only the briefest pit stop at home before heading to the Bronx to celebrate Shawn’s 40th bday with a backyard bash. By the time we got home we were exhausted in a really satisfying way.

I popped into Pop Up Grocer yesterday and, although it’s so pricey, I love the curation of snacks and overall setup of the store. I walked away with a bag of pests puffed pasta snack, some onion sauce/marinade, and mochi.
